Naxos Classical Embraces the Future of Digital Media

In the last few years we have read about and observed the changes that are occurring within the music business. The new digital world of music has created challenges for artists, music labels, promoters and yes, … for us, the music fan. With major cd boutiques closing and the dwindling down of record sales, the connections between the industry and music fan are being re-invented. There is good news. New methods for linking music and listeners are materializing within the industry. Our salute this month goes to the Naxos music label.

Naxos has created a ‘Newsletter’ for fans of Classical Music in which they present current news and information for the month. The features are too numerous to describe on this brief post, but I will try to give you some idea about what you will find.

Each month, I receive an email from Naxos with the ‘Newsletter’ as the main body of text. Naxos prominently displays their items of interest for the month at the top of the page. Just from these topics you can begin to click the links to learn more from their regular web site. Below the ‘news’ is an ad for the Naxos Sampler that is available for fans to listen to selected works from this month’s new releases. The sampler for July has sixteen tracks from the new music releases for about $1.50 for the cd. It is a bargain. You can listen to discover if you would like to purchase the entire cd.

Other features on the ‘Newsletter’ include Naxos’ album of the month, the most streamed (listened to) works on the Naxos web site, and recommended tracks for listeners who enjoy specific albums. On the right column of the ‘Naxos Newsletter’ you will find ads for special bargains and links to hear music for free

I hope I am stirring your interest up for the ‘Naxos Newsletter’. It is easy to subscribe. Just visit www.naxos.com and go to the bottom of their web page where the golden tab says ‘Newsletter Subscription’. Once inside, prospective recipients of the newsletter can specify their own listening interests. . You don’t have to do anything else. The newsletter will automatically show up in your email box each month. There is no charge to subscribe.

I am grateful for Naxo’s progressive movement to help music fans learn more about classical music. Their efforts assist artists in locating their audience. Of course it is business, but their comprehensive approach sets them aside as a great citizen and promoter of our art form. It is educational and informative beyond expectation. The introduction of the ‘Newsletter’ is an example of how Naxos is setting the pace and standard for the industry. I am also particularly grateful for their support of radioIO CLASSICAL and radioIO CLASSICAL FAVORITES as they faithfully send us the music for our listeners. Through the generosity of Naxos, we are afforded the luxury of presenting many or all of their new Releases for you each month along with other labels whose music is distributed through their warehouses.

So our Salute for August goes out to Naxos! If you have questions about the ‘Naxos Newsletter’, just email drmike@radioio.com.
