Ribbon Music (A subsidiary of Domino Records with artists including Laura Marling, John Maus) recently announced the new full-length album from Black Dice, Mr. Impossible, to be released (LP/ CD/digi) on April 10 in the U.S. and on April 9 worldwide.

For over fifteen years, Black Dice have continuously reinvented and mutated punk music into new sonic forms. The New York based trio of Eric Copeland, Bjorn Copeland, and Aaron Warren have released scores of albums, EPs, and singles on iconic labels (Gravity, 31g,Troubleman, DFA, Paw Tracks), that document their musical travels, from raw brutal thrash to inside-out pop anthems from way out.

A decade and half of evolution has seen the amplification get larger, and the instruments more enigmatic. Drums and bass guitars have been replaced with mixer feedback, processed vocals, and alien sounds that seek to seduce and repulse impressionable ears. Using videos, live projections, and printed ephemera, the band has developed an over the top psychoactive audio-visual aesthetic that twists the useless pop sights and sounds we are bombarded with into infectious new strains of music and imagery that ooze a rock and roll spirit.

A special version of Mr. Impossible, hand-numbered and individually screen printed, is limited to 350 copies and are available for pre-order now: http://www.ribbonmusic.com/mrimpossible

Mr. Impossible Track List:
01. Pinball Wizard
02. Rodriguez
03. The Jacker
04. Pigs
05. Spy Vs. Spy
06. Out Body Drifter
07. Shithouse Drifter
08. Carnitas
09. Brunswick Sludge

Paul’s Tribute To Personal Favorites & Two New Self Penned Compositions Out February 7th

WHILE many a musician is often asked about the tunes that have influenced their songwriting, it is not a question Paul McCartney ordinarily gets to answer – until now. Paul is about to offer a glimpse into “the songs which inspired the songs” with the upcoming release of a brand new album of those standards he grew up listening to in his childhood-plus two brand new McCartney compositions: the album, which is currently untitled, will be released on Hear Music/Concord Records on February 7th 2012.

With the help of Grammy Award-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Diana Krall and her band-as well as guest appearances from Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, McCartney’s new album is a deeply personal journey through classic American compositions that, in some cases, a young Paul first heard his father perform on piano at home. As authentic and daring a musical statement as he could make, this is the album Paul has been thinking about making for more than 20 years – and probably the last thing his fans are expecting. “In the end it was ‘Look, if I don’t do it now, I’ll never do it,” he says.

In short, Paul believes it is about time “the songs me and John based quite a few of our things on” received the recognition they deserve. Moreover, the record also features a couple of new original McCartney compositions in the spirit of those classics.

“When I kind of got into songwriting, I realized how well structured these songs were and I think I took a lot of my lessons from them,” Paul explains. “I always thought artists like Fred Astaire were very cool. Writers like Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, all of those guys – I just thought the songs were magical. And then, as I got to be a songwriter I thought it’s beautiful, the way they made those song’.”

Determined to approach the record in a new and unique manner, Paul enlisted the help of LiPuma and Krall and her band-who delivered ultra-high quality musicianship and were completely in tune with Paul’s restraint and feel for the music. In the studio, the recording of this album was also a new challenge for Paul who, for the first time ever, performed exclusively in the vocal booth without no instrument – no guitar, no bass, no piano – which led to a vocal performance like no other in his career.

He adds, “It was very spontaneous, kind of organic, which then reminded me of the way we’d work with The Beatles. We’d bring a song in, kick it around, when we found a way to do it we’d say ‘Okay, let’s do a take now’ and by the time everyone kind of had an idea of what they were doing, we’d learnt the song. So that’s what we did, we did the take live in the studio.”

“It was important for me to keep away from the more obvious song choices so, many of the classic standards will be unfamiliar to some people. I hope they are in for a pleasant surprise.”

The album was recorded at the legendary Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, New York and London throughout 2011. It also features guest musicians Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder, respectively, on the original compositions ‘My Valentine’ and ‘Only Our Hearts’.

The track ‘My Valentine’ will be exclusively streamed on www.paulmccartney.com to premium members for 24 hours only, from 1400hrs (GMT) today (Monday 19th December).

Full tracklisting to be announced soon.

Friday, February 17, 2012

Having recently made his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut last month as part of See a Little Light: A Celebration of the Music and Legacy of Bob Mould, Ryan Adams will return to the iconic venue as a headliner on Friday, February 17, at 8 p.m.

The L.A. show is the latest in a series of 2012 tour dates extending his current completely sold out tour, which the New York Times recently lauded as a “gorgeously hushed communion” in which “a lone chord can arrive like a thunderclap.” Of his performance at last month’s Mould tribute, the Los Angeles Times noted, “Ryan Adams stole the show, however, with the quietest set of the night. His devastating solo acoustic reads of Mould’s “Heartbreak a Stranger” and “Black Sheets of Rain” stripped the arrangements bare and revealed the first-rate melodicist behind them.”

Generating some of the best reviews of his career, Adams’ “superb new album” (the New York Times again), Ashes & Fire (PAX-AM/Capitol), is eleven succinct and beautiful songs that “will leave you speechless” according to People, and hailed by Esquire as “too good not to write about” and by USA Today as a record that “restores faith in the increasingly saggy singer/songwriter genre.” Ashes & Fire was produced by 2012 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Glyn Johns, renowned for his work with the likes of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Clash and The Rolling Stones, and whose son Ethan produced previous Adams solo landmarks including Heartbreaker and Gold. The record also features guest turns from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench and Norah Jones, who contributes piano and backing vocals to several tracks.

Tickets are available for purchase beginning Sunday, December 18th at 10 a.m. at LAPhil.com, the Walt Disney Concert Hall Box Office or any Ticketmaster outlet. To order by phone with credit card, please call the Walt Disney Concert Hall Box Office at 323.850.2000, or Ticketmaster at 800.745.3000. For more information, please call 323.850.2000.

Anyone who’s witnessed one of Foo Fighters near-three-hour tour dates in support of their worldwide #1, Album of the Year Grammy-nominated Wasting Light knows: They’re the hardest rocking band on the current stadium and arena circuit.

But now there’s geoscientific evidence to prove it: the capacity crowd of 50,000 at the Foos’ December 13 gig at Auckland, New Zealand’s Western Springs Stadium generated actual detectable geological tremors.

New Zealand media reported that nearby monitoring stations in Herne Bay and Eden Park picked up tremors consistent with those generated by a volcanic event–except that the shaking coincided precisely with the Foo Fighters performance, even including “lulls in the signal between the songs and peaks in signal intensity during the songs” according to the GeoNet blog http://geonet-shakennotstirred.blogspot.com/2011/12/rock-n-roll.html

The Western Springs Stadium show was the conclusion of a record-breaking run of Australia/New Zealand stadium shows, as well as the last date of the Wasting Light tour until 2012 when the Foo Fighters will resume moving the earth.

This message from the people trying to protect Internet freedoms at demandprogress.org :

We need to jam up the phones. There’s a big vote coming up on the Stop Online Piracy Act in the House next week.

Will you click here to call your representative and ask him or her to oppose Internet censorship? it’ll just take a couple of minutes.

And if you can’t call (or even if you can) will you use these links to ask your friends to join the fight against this legislation, or direct them to StopCensorship.org?

We’re at the beginning of the end, and we need to act right away. The Stop Online Piracy Act would ruin so much of what’s best about the Internet:

It will give the government and corporations new powers to block Americans’ access to sites that are accused of copyright infringement, force sites like YouTube to go to new lengths to police users’ contributions or shut down, and put people in prison for streaming certain content online.

The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on the legislation next week, and the only way we’ll stop them is if we create an uprising of rank-and-file members.

We need to have their phones ringing off the hooks this week.

Please click here to call your representative and ask him or her to oppose Internet censorship. It’ll just take a couple of minutes and we’ll give you a short script you can use.

Let’s make the most of social networking sites before SOPA shuts them down. If you can’t call (or even if you can) will you use these links to ask your friends to join the fight against this legislation, or direct them to StopCensorship.org?

Thanks for continuing the fight.
