New Rock 1019
On February 5, 2008, 101.9 FM in New York City dropped it's Chill/Smooth Jazz in favor of a new modern rock format as "The New York Rock Experience", with new call letters WRXP. Host of MTV's 120 minutes, Matt Pinfield came on board to host mornings. In 2011 WRXP was sold and alternative rock was dropped, and 1019 became WEMP, a news-hybrid, known as 101.9 FM News. For a year, all-news showed meager ratings and 101.9 switched back to alternative and indie rock as WRXP, New Rock 101.9 on July 17, 2012. However on November 1, 2012, it was announced that 101.9 FM had been sold and became all-sports radio on FM.
On November 2, 2012 at midnight, StreamHost Robert Goodman moved New Rock 1019 online and today it is still New York's New Rock station. Alternative is back! "New Rock for New York" is still alive and well on RadioIO, listen live and bask in the awesomeness of the great music you've been missing. We bet you'll discover some great newer stuff along the way, too. You'll love New York’s alternative station. Robert hand picks each day's playlist, and it cover everything from the early roots of alternative music to the Indie Rock sound that is the primary focus of alternative radio today.
