Hey everybody! My name is Eddie George and I currently reside in Jacksonville, Fl. I'm originally a yankee from Jersey, but have lived in Florida for over 30 years. I have to believe that it was written in the stars that I would wind up with my dream job of programming music for the whole world here at radioio. I have been absolutely obsessed with music since, well, the crib I suppose! My mother worked at RCA in the sixties and would bring home defective 45's. She sat me in front of the record player and that was it. I didn't want toys, I wanted records. I didn't want to go out and play, I wanted to play my records. By the time I was 8 or so, I had a pretty good record collection going. Being the obsessive compulsive kid that I was (and still am), my records were well taken care of. I still have every one. As a teenager, it only intensified. I was more into albums, and in the late seventies I discovered Billboard magazine and I read it from cover to cover every week. It inspired me to begin making my own weekly charts, which I do to this day. I spent every Sunday morning listening to Casey Casem's American Top 40. I never went anywhere without music, I had a portable 8-track player and a portable cassette player. When I say music has been my life, it's an understatement. Oh, I'm also one of those freaky people who harbor all the music trivia stuff in my brain. And I have this "numbers" thing, so most of the time I can tell you how long a song is or what it's chart position was. It's just sick on so many levels, but it makes me who I am and why I love doing what I do! Everything came together back in 2003 when radioio was still quite small and only had a handful of channels. Our founder, Mike Roe, was looking for someone to put together a pop channel. It just so happened that I was friends with two of the streamhosts at that time, Robert and Jay. They told Mike of my music obsession, knowledge, and collection, and that pop was my "specialty." So Mike took a chance on me, and radioioPop was born. Soon after I began radioio 70'sPop. To me, one of the most attractive and satisfying aspects of radioio's approach is the relationship with the listener. Not only do I get to program music, which has always been my dream, but I get to exchange e-mails with listeners, play requests, and engage in conversations about the music. C'mon, who gets that opportunity? No other service offers such a personal touch. And our listeners are special, they totally "get it," and connecting with my listeners has been very rewarding. I invite all my listeners to write to me anytime at eddie@radioio.com. So that's the story. I had no experience in the music industry prior to radioio; I was an MRI technologist for 20 years. I'm just a regular guy with a passion for music (and a record collection that takes up a whole room in my home) who went from dreaming of working at a radio station as a kid to being able to share my music collection with you. The kick is that this "radio station" can be heard all over the world. Radioio has come a long way. Now I'm programming eight channels, with the possibility of more. It's more fun than you can imagine! Eddie George |
